11/12/2011: Chapter Picnic and Orchard Tour
The Chapter\'s Fall Picnic and Orchard Tour will start at noon at the Manor House, Black Mountain Campus, Montreat College. Bring your own food and beverages and a blanket to spread on the ground. The Ross Brothers of Maggie Valley, NC, playing guitar and banjo, will provide mountain music during the event. A backcross chestnut orchard will be toured, one whose trees were inoculated this past summer to determine which ones are most resistant to the blight. 8/20/2011: Carolinas Chapter Annual Meeting
The Annual Meeting will be held at Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden, 6500 South New Hope Road, Belmont, NC. Admission is $12 with youth 12 and under free. Refreshments and lunch are included. The Garden and Orchid Conservatory may be toured prior to and following the meeting and during lunch at no additionl charge. Hours of operation for DSBG are 9 am until 5 pm. Details of the meeting are posted under the About tab under News and Annoucements. If you plan to attend, let Doug Gillis know how many are coming so we can plan for lunch. There will be a panel discussion starting a 7PM about the history and culture of the American chestnut and efforts to restore it to eastern woodlands. Board Members of the Carolinas Chapter ot The American Chestnut Foundation will lead the discussion. Check the News and Announcements article under the About tab for admission to the event.

7/1/2011: 25th Anniversary Celebration for the NC Arboretum
The Carolinas Chapter and The American Chestnut Foundation will be presenting information from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Professor Charlotte Ross of Appalachian State University and Road Scholar with the NC Humanities Council will present on \"The American Chestnut\'s Role in Appalachian Life\" at 5:00 p.m. in the lobby of the Baker Exhibit Center. Come join us for a picnic and tour of one of the Carolinas Chapter’s best chestnut orchards, which has been inoculated with chestnut bark blight fungus, and see how we select for blight resistance. The meeting starts at 11 AM and ends at 3 PM. Hosts are Scott and Nancy Pryor, and the location is the Pryor Farm, 72 Will Hill Road, Hendersonville, NC. The fee for attendance is $10 per person which includes a catered bar-be-cue lunch. There is no charge for children 12 years old and younger.
